Miners throttle Anaconda to sweep Washoe twin bill

ANACONDA — The Butte Miners rolled to a pair of lopsided Southern A wins over the Anaconda A’s Tuesday night at Washoe Stadium.

The Miners won both ends of the doubleheader by the identical 17-1 score, outscoring the A’s 34-2 in a pair of games called by the mercy rule after five innings.

The wins even the Miners conference record at 3-3 on the eve of a tournament in Pocatello, Idaho. The Butte boys begin play at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Blackfoot.

Game 1

Rylan Richards had himself a game in the opener to set the table for the Butte win.

The leadoff hitter went 3 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored, pacing a Miners offense that smacked 15 hits. Richards also started and pitched into the fourth inning to get the win.

Evan Starr went 4 for 4 with an RBI and a pair of runs. He also doubled.

Coyt Stajcar hit a triple, and Rye Doherty and Eric Hart added doubles for the Butte boys. Egan Lester, Max Demarais and Doherty had a two-hit game. Reece Cox joined Demarais with three runs scored.

Demarais got the final four outs to shut the door on the win.

Riley Kristovich singled for the lone Anaconda hit. Leadoff hitter Mason Worl walked and scored for the A’s.

Game 2

A home run by Kian O’Neill highlighted the nightcap for Miners.

The blast came as the Butte third baseman went 2 for three with three RBIs and four runs scored. He also joined Richards with a double.

Starr and Ethan Cunningham each hit a pair of singles. Richards, Hart, Doherty, Cox and Eyston Lakkala each hit one. Hart, and Lakkala joined O’Neill with three RBIs.

Richards, Hart and Cunningham scored two runs apiece.

Doherty pithed three innings, giving up an unearned run for the win. Cunningham fanned four batters over two innings of relief.

A Worl single was the lone A’s hit.
