HELENA — The Butte Miners and Helena Senators split a nonconference doubleheader Saturday.

Helena won the opener 4-3 before the Miners erupted for a 23-8 win in Game 2.

Butte, which is 2-4 on the season, will play the Bozeman Bucks Wednesday in Bozeman.

Helena’s Jack Shevalier struck out 11 miners and scattered six hits in the victory.

Kienan Sief drove in two runs with a single and a double for the Senators.

Leadoff hitter Trey Hoagland went 2 for 4 to lead the Miner offense. Nate LeProwse, Dylan McDonald, Ryan Moodry and Kilian O’Leary each added a single.

Jared Haran and Quin Sommers combined to strike out nine Senators.

The Miners pounded 16 hits in the victory that was stopped by the mercy rule.

LeProwse went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, while Hoagland and Marcus Madrazo each added two hits and three RBIs. Madrazo also played tennis for the Bulldogs in the Helena Invitational on Saturday morning.

Zach Hart, Haran and Ryan Moodry each poked two hits in the win that saw Butte overcome a 6-1 lead by scoring 10 runs in the third.

McDonald, Dylan Lane and Berger added a hit. Pitcher Renzy Doherty picked up the win in relief.
