BOZEMAN — The Butte Miners split a Southern A doubleheader with the Bozeman Bucks Thursday night at Heroes Park.
Bozeman won the opener 13-3, but the Miners stormed back to take the nightcap 12-6.
The Miners (3-1 in conference play) head to Missoula for a non-conference twin bill with the Mavericks AA team on Sunday.
Bozeman 13, Butte 3
The Bucks took command with five runs in the first and three in the second.
After Butte scored three in the fourth, the Bucks added four more in the fourth, and the game was called after five innings by the 10-run rule. (Box score)
Gage Ross hit a triple and a single, while Brooks Talbot hit three singles to lead Bozeman’s 10-hit attack. Preston Fliehman added two singles.
Drew Roberts pitched four innings, and worked around seven walks for the win. He surrendered just two hits and no earned runs. Andrew Weston slammed the door on the combined two-hitter.
Rylan Richards tripled and Hunter Bugni singled for the Miners.
Butte 12, Bozeman 6
The Miners turned things around in Game 2.
Butte scored four in the first and two in the sixth and held on for the victory. (Box score)
Richards struck out six and walked six in five innings of work. He scattered three hits and gave up three earned runs to get the win.
Casey Kautzman struck out four and gave up two runs in two innings to close it out.
Richards hit a triple and a double from the leadoff spot, while Ryan Wahl hit a triple and a single to lead the Miner offense. Bugni and Peyton Hettick doubled, and Egan Lester hit three singles.
Scout Allen, Kenley Leary and Coty Stajcar all singled. Allen, Hettick, Wahl, Bugni and Leary each drove in a pair of runs.
