BOZEMAN — The Dillon Cubs scored 10 runs in the fifth inning Sunday, and the Cubs outslugged the Butte Miners 18-16 in a loser-out game of the Southern A District American Legion Baseball tournament.
The victory sends the Cubs to the Class A State tournament in Florence. It also sends them to the championship game against Gallatin Valley. Dillon will have to be the Outlaws twice to win the double-elimination tournament.
Pete Gibson went 3 for 5 with a double, and Hunter Went wroth doubled and drove in four runs to lead the Cubs, who avenged a loss to the Miners earlier in the tournament. Jace Fitzgerald poked a pair of singles, and Ben Jones, Jade Morsat and Nicholas Johnston each drove in two runs.
Johnny Reiser pitched three innings of relief to get the win.
Erik Hart went 5 for 5 with two runs batted in to lead the Miners. Ryan Wahl doubled and singled and drove in five runs, and Rylan Richards hit a double and a single while drive in three runs.
Scout Allen and Eagan Lester each added two hits and three runs Peyton Hettick and Kenley Leary hit singles.
