Miners rally past Bandits, are one win from State

BOZEMAN — The Butte Miners are one win away for the Class A State tournament.

For the second straight day Friday, the Miners rallied in the seventh inning for a victory at the Southern A District American Legion Baseball tournament at Heroes’ Park. This time, the Miners scored four runs in the top of the seventh to knock off Belgrade 14-10. (Box score)

Butte plays Gallatin Valley at 4 p.m. Saturday. If the Miners win that game or another game in the losers’ bracket, they qualify for the State tournament in Florence.

Egan Lester, Aidan Lee and Evan Star each smacked a pair of hits to lead the Miners, who did their damage with nine singles. Scout Allen, Peyton Hettick and Eric Hart each added a single.

Allen, Lester, Starr and Rylan Richards each drove in a pair of runs. Richards scored three times.

Ryan Wahl pitched into the seventh inning, striking out nine to get the win. Richards got the last two outs.

Marcos Verdeja went 4 for 4 with a double from the leadoff spot to lead the Bandits. Kash Fike hit a triple and a single.

The top two teams from the double-elimination tournament move on.
