HELENA — The Butte Miners used some lights-out pitching to sweep a Southern A American Legion doubleheader with the Helena Reps Wednesday at Kindrick Legion Field.
Ryan Wahl dominated as the Miners took the opener 2-1. Ryan Burt and Kenley Leary took over in the nightcap, and the Miners won 4-0.
The sweep evened Butte’s record at 3-3 in league play. The Miners improved to 3-7 overall. The team heads to Anaconda Friday for a 6 p.m. twin bill with the A’s at Washoe Park.

Wahl struck out 10 batters and scattered eight hits in the complete-game victory in the opener.
The future University of Jamestown righty walked two batters in a game that saw all three runs score in the seventh and final inning. The complete game was the second of the season for Wahl, who improved to 2-0.
Egan Lester and Aidan Lee each went 2 for 2 to lead Butte’s seven-hit attack. Lee and Eric Hart drove in runs, scoring Rylan Richards and Lester.
Burt and Evan Starr joined Hart with a single in the win.
Gavin Thennis and Michael Hurlbert each poked a pair of hits to lead the Reps. Hunter Bratcher pitched into the seventh, fanning five, in the hard-luck loss.

Burt and Leary combined for the shutout, two-hit victory.
Burt, a future University of Mary pitcher, struck out seven batters and walked two in four and two thirds of an inning. Leary fanned three and issued two walks in two and a third innings.
Both pitchers surrendered just one hit — singles by Eric Cockhill. Burt, the starter, got the win.
Leary and Richards each hit a double and a single, while Coyt Stajcar and Star each hit a pair of singles in the win. Lester, Wahl and Kian O’Neill added singles.
Richards, Stajcar, Leary and Star drove in runs, scoring O’Neill (twice), Leary and Starr.
