Miners open homestand with sweep of Bucs

The Butte Miners began a weekend full of home doubleheaders with a sweep of the Bitterroot Bucs Saturday at 3 Legends Stadium.

Butte beat Bitterroot 11-6 before completing the sweep with a 10-0 victory. The Miners have now won six of their last seven games to run their record to 6-5 on the season.

Sunday’s doubleheader pits the Miners against the Bitterroot Red Sox at 1 p.m. The Butte Muckers will head to Anaconda for a 1 p.m. twin bill with the A’s at Washoe Park.

Game 1
Butte Miners 11, Bitterroot Bucs 6

Kenley Leary went 3 for 3 with two doubles to set the plate as the Miners won the opener.

Butte led 11-3 after scoring five runs in the third and four in the fifth. The Bucs scored three in the sixth to tighten the game up.

Rye Doherty smacked a pair of doubles in the win. Kevin Donaldson and Quinn Cox added a double, and Egan Lester hit two singles. Cayde Stajcar also singled for Butte.

Ethan Cunningham struck out six batters in six and a third innings to get the win. Stajcar got the last two outs.

Game 2
Butte Miners 10, Bitterroot Bucs 0

Leary pitched the distance in Game 2. He struck out six and scattered two hits, both singles.

Eric Hart went 3 for 4, while Doherty and Leary each went 2 for 3 with a double to lead Butte’s 10-hit attack.

Aidan Lee doubled and drove in three runs for Butte. Stajcar doubled, and Sean Ossello singled. Anthony Knott worked a pair of walks in the win.

The Miners wasted little time taking control of the second game. After scoring three in the first, Butte blew the game open with six runs in the second.

Lee doubled in Hart to walk the game off by the 10-run rule.
