The Butte Miners will make their triumphant return to American Legion post-season play Wednesday at the Southern A District tournament in Three Forks.
The tournament is the first in Legion baseball for the Miners since Butte hosted the 2011 Class AA state tournament at Alumni Coliseum.
Butte opens the tournament at 8:30 a.m. against the Dillon Cubs, a team the Miners went 1-7 against during the regular season. The winner of that game will play Belgrade or Livingston at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
The loser will play at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in a loser-out game. Bracket
The Miners enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed at 13-11. Butte went 27-24 overall. Dillon is the No. 3 seed at 16-8 and 36-19.
Host Gallatin Valley (19-3, 40-20) is the No. 1 seed followed by Belgrade (18-3, 38-35), Dillon, Helena (14-10, 37-19) and Deer Lodge (13-11, 28-18). Deer Lodge won the tiebreaker over Butte for the No. 5 seed.
Livingston (5-17, 8-36) is the No. 7 seed, followed by Anaconda (5-19, 12-34) and Bozeman (1-21, 2-34).
The top two teams advance to the Class A state tournament in Lewistown.
