HAMILTON — The Butte Miners split with the Bitterroot Bucs in a non-conference American Legion baseball doubleheader Sunday.

The Miners dropped a 4-3 decision in the opener before rolling to a 20-4 victory in Game 2. The Miners (1-3) are back on the road next Sunday to take on the Missoula Prospects in a doubleheader.

Bitterroot Bucs 4, Butte Miners 3
Ross LeSoine reached on an error and scored on a single by Brazton McCullough as the Bucs walked off with the win the bottom of the ninth inning.

The game went extra innings because Marcus Madrazo and Ryan Moodry hit RBI singles to tie the game in the top of the seventh.

Nate LeProwse and Trey Berger combined to strike out nine batters for the Miners. Butte pitching surrendered just four hits in the loss.

Moodry and Madrazo each had two hits. One of Madrazo’s was a double. Trey Hoagland, Zach Hart, Jared Haran, Dylan McDonald and Braxton Henningsen each added singles for Butte.

The Miners took command with an eight-run first inning. They put it away with seven in the third and five in the fifth.

The game was called after five innings by the 10-run rule.

Butte did its damage with 17 singles in the win.

Konnor O’Neill and Hoagland each smacked three hits in the victory. Hart and LeProwse added two hits, while Quin Sommers, Jung Hung, McDonald, Tommy Martz, Dedrazo, Koby Doherty and Will Hoagland each added a hit.

Kilian O’Leary struck out six batters in three innings to get the win.
