Miners head to Helena for Keith Sell Tournament

The Butte Miners will take their 17-game winning streak to the Capital City this weekend for the 27th Annual Keith Sell Tournament.

Butte (21-5) has won 20 out of 21 games after starting the season at 0-4. This weekend, though, the competition steps up at Kindrick Legion Field.

First up for the Miners is a 10 a.m. game Friday against the Great Falls AA squad. Butte will play Glacier at 12:30 p.m. Saturday before battling a pair of Calgary teams on Sunday. The Miners take on the Cardinals at 3 p.m. and the Bucks at 5:30.

Monday’s action depends on the previous three days of play.

The Miners have not lost a game since dropping a 10-9 non-conference decision at Belgrade on May 20. Butte is 12-0 in South A play.

At 6-0, Ethan “Easy” Cunningham leads the Butte pitching staff into the tournament. Kenley Leary is 4-0, while Rye Doherty is 4-1, and Trey Hanson is 3-0.

Eric “Chooch” Hart is batting .543 with 12 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs in 26 games. Sean Ossello, who has done a lot of his work turning the lineup over form the No. 9 hole, is hitting .535. Leary, Quinn Cox and Cayde Stajcar are all hitting over .400.

Egan Lester brings a .351 average to the tournament, Anthony Knott is hitting .326, and Aidan Lee’s average sits at .319. Lee has knocked in 20 runs.

Next weekend, the Miners will head to Whitefish for a tournament. Butte’s next conference game is July 12 at Gallatin Valley. The next Miners home action is July 15 against the Belgrade Bandits.
