Miners enter key stretch Monday

The Butte Miners will be a busy bunch in the next couple of weeks.

The American Legion baseball team will play 12 games in 13 days, starting with Monday’s nine-inning Southern A game at Copper Mountain Park. That game begins at 4 p.m.

All of those games will be conference contests for the Miners (21-18 overall), who sit in fifth place in conference at 7-5. The Miners haven’t played since winning the fifth-place game last Monday at the Keith Sell Invitational in Helena.

As of July 3, Gallatin Valley leads the league at 12-1. Belgrade is second at 11-3, followed by the Dillon Cubs at 13-3 and the Helena Reps at 8-5. Butte leads Deer Lodge (7-7), Livingston (4-14), Anaconda (3-16) and the Bozeman Spikes (1-13).

Butte will play a nine-inning game at Gallatin Valley on Tuesday before playing a make-up seven-inning game at home against Helena on Wednesday.

After a home doubleheader against  Deer Lodge on Friday the Miners will welcome Gallatin Valley for a nine-inning game on Saturday.

Next week, Butte plays road doubleheaders at Helena and Deer Lodge before welcoming Livingston and Belgrade at home for nine-inning home games on Thursday on Saturday.

After the key stretch, the Miners and Muckers will host the annual Old Timers game on Sunday, July 20.

The district tournament starts July 23 in Three Forks.
