WHITEFISH — The Butte Miners opened the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial tournament with two losses Thursday.
Butte fell 12-8 to the Kalispell Lakers before dropping a 9-0 decision to Lethbridge. Butte will play the Glacier Twins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday before taking on the Spokane Cannons at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Sunday’s play is determined by seed.
Kalispell 12, Butte 4 (Box score)
The Lakers scored four in the fourth and one in the fifth to pull away from the Miners. That came after Butte scored six runs in the top of the fourth to take an 8-7 lead.
Peyton Davisson went 3 for 3 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Lakers. Ryan Symmes went 3 for 4 with a double.
Egan Lester went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Aidan Lee doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Miners.
Peyton Hettick hit two singles, while Scout Allen, Eric Hart and Rylan Richards all hit one.
Lethbridge 9, Butte 0 (Box score)
The Miners were held to just four singles in their second game.
Wolfgang Doty-Basel, Ryan Wahl, Kian O’Neill and Riley Chiotti all notched base hits in the loss.
Names for the Lethbridge players were not provided.
