Miners bombard A’s to extend streak to 17 games

ANACONDA — The Butte Miners added two more wins Saturday afternoon at Washoe Park.

Once again, they won big.

Butte beat Anaconda 14-1 and 13-0 to sweep a South A doubleheader, rolling its winning streak to 17 games. The 10-run rule ended both games early, the first after six innings and the second after five.

The Miners have won 20 of their last 21 games, improving to 21-5 overall and 12-0 in conference.

Next up for the Miners is the Keith Sell Tournament, which begins Friday in Helena.

Game 1

Eric “Chooch” Hart had himself a game to lead the Butte 17-hit attack in the opener. He went 4 for 4 with three doubles.

In all, Butte belted 10 extra-base hits in the win. Sean Ossello went 3 for 4 with a double, and Zach Tierney hit two doubles.

Cayde Stajcar hit a double and a single, while Egan Lester and Ethan “Easy” Cunningham each hit two singles. Rye Doherty and Evan Starr also doubled in the win.

Lester, Stajcar, Tierney and Ossello each drove in two runs.

Aidan Lee pitched five innings in the win. He struck out six, walked seven and allowed just two hits. He gave up an unearned run. George Riojas got the last three outs.

Butte stole six bases in the win, two by Ossello and one apiece by Hart, Tierney, Lester and Cunningham.

Jayce Coughlin, Kale Pyles and Aidan Tuss singled for the A’s.

Trey Hansen spun a gem for the Miners, giving up just one hit in the complete-game shutout. He struck out two and walked one.

Stajcar, Doherty and Quinn Cox each drove in three runs to lead the Miner offense. Stajcar went 3 for 3 with a double. Doherty hit a double and a single, and Cox hit two singles.

Lester and Ossello each poked two singles for Butte. Hart doubled, and Tierney singled. Lee Worked two walks. Stajcar, Doherty and Anthony Knott also walked.

The Miners again stole six bases. Lester swiped two, while Doherty, Lee, Stajcar and Cox each stole one.

Tanner Cromwell singled for Anaconda’s lone hit.
