POCATELLO — Eyston Lakkala took one for the team to cap a huge comeback Saturday.
Lakkala picked up a walk-off RBI with a bean ball. That scored the fifth run as the Miners beat The Valley 17-16 in the championship game of the 16-team Pocatello Wood Bat Tournament. (Boxscore)
The Valley led 14-3 after scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Butte battled back with nine in the bottom of the sixth. After The Valley put up two in the top of the seventh, Butte responded again for the win.
Egan Lester went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Miners in the improbable victory. Eric Hart, Kian O’Neill and Coyt Stajcar each had a two-hit game in the title tilt. O’Neill, Stajcar and Hunter Hotalen, who scored the winning run, doubled.
Rylan Richards, Reece Cox, Evan Starr and Ethan Cunningham added hits in the win. Cox joined Lester with three RBIs. Richards and O’Neill drove in two.
Lakkala got the last four outs to pick up the win in relief.
The Miners are back in action Wednesday when they play host to the Bitterroot Red Sox in a non-conference twin bill. The Anaconda A’s come to town four a Southern A double dip on Friday.
