The Mine Yard Dogs Wrestling Club took to the mats on January 26th and 27th in Idaho Falls, ID for the Snake River Rumble. The club also participated in the Missouri River Rumble in Three forks on the 29th of January.
Snake River Rumble
The MYDWC brought a total of 17 kids past the state border to Idaho Falls for a two-day tournament hosted by the IDAWAY wrestling association.
Three Mine Yard youngsters took home the gold medal for their respected age and weight class.
Reid Leprowse went 4-0 in the 5&6 age group at 43 pounds. Reid’s first match was a win via injury stoppage. The next three wins were all via pinfall. In total, Reid scored 22 total points for the Mine Yard Dogs.
Maddison Brown was a workhorse this tournament. Not only did she finish first in the Girls 7&8 age group at 54 pounds, she also went up an age group and beat the only girl at the 9-11 age range twice by pinfall. But wait, there’s more! Maddison also wrestled in the boys 7&8 age group at 54 pounds and finished in 5th place. Maddison scored 26 total points for the Mine Yard Dogs.
Remington Grunhuvd finished first in the 13-15 age range at 82 pounds. Remington is the oldest of the five Grunhuvds who wrestled in the tournament. Remington cruised through the competition going 4-0. Remington managed to score a total of 14 points for the Mine Yard Dogs.
The Mine Yards Dogs tallied 120 total team points from all wrestlers who participated. All 17 participants would go on to wrestle in the Missouri River Rumble two days later.
Missouri River Rumble
36 total wrestlers represented the Mine Yard Dogs in the Missouri River Rumble hosted by the Headwaters Wrestling Academy of Three Forks.
A total of 12 Mine Yard Dogs would take home the gold medal for each of their age and weight classes. Each first place winner added ten points to the teams overall score.
Samson Rauch won all three of his matches via pinfalls in less than :25 seconds in the 6U 45 pounds class.
Reid Leprowse, who dominated in Idaho just a few days before, took home another gold medal to add to his ever growing collection. Representing the 8U 43 pound class, his first two wins were by pinfall and the championship round was a 6-0 decision.
Elias McEwen was one of four McEwens to win the gold medal. All three wins came via pinfall in the 8U 45 pound class.
Noah Hollamon went 3 for 3 in his matches to take home the gold. All three wins came via pinfall in the 8U 62 pound class.
Eme Rauch was one of two girls to win the gold medal for Mine Yard. Eme won all three of her matches in the 8U 60 pound class. First match via pinfall, second match via forfeit, and the third match was won by a 15-0 tech fall.
Maddison does not show any signs of slowing down. After wrestling THIRTEEN total matches in Idaho, Maddison wrestled in both the 10U 53 pound class and the 10U Girls 55/60 pound class. Maddison won all three of her matches in the 10U Girls 55/60 pound class via pinfall. Maddison took 2nd in the 10U 53 pound class with all her wins coming via pinfall. Her only loss was to Jacob Buckley of the Helena Wrestling Club by a score of 7-2.
Bearick McEwen lives up to his grizzly-like name as he went 4 for 4 in the 10U 56 pound class. His first two matches were won by decision. Bearicks third match was won via pinfall and his championship match was won by a 15-0 tech fall, much like Eme Rauchs.
The 10U 67 pound class saw the Mine Yard Dogs going 1-2 on the day. Trae Hansen brought home the gold medal with Sawyer Hunt taking home the silver medal. Trae won the championship round due to an injury stoppage. Hopefully Sawyer is back up and wrestling again soon.
Paxton McEwen brought home the gold medal with two pinfall victories, a tech fall, and a major decision win of 8-0. Paxton represented the 12U 63/67 pound class.
Renzy LeProwse won all three of his matches via pinfall in the 12U 78 pound class. His championship round win was over Butte Wrestling Club’s Adalie Hazlett.
Remington Grunhuvd continues to bring home the gold with his three wins in the Middle School 83 pound class. With his first match being a close 4-2 decision over Jesse Grossman of the Billings Wrestling Club, Remington went on to win his next two matches via pinfall.
The McEwen Mount Rushmore was completed when Reveles McEwen became the fourth McEwen to win the gold in Three Forks. All three of his wins came via pinfall in the Middle School 97 pound class.
In total, the Mine Yard Dogs scored 210 team points from all participants.
As the late Jim Peltomaa would say…“These kids deserve a dog bone. Why? Because they’re animals.”
