FRENCHTOWN — The Mile High All-Stars and Garden City South lit up the scoreboard on Thursday as they combined for 18 runs.
In the end, Mile High All-Stars won the offensive battle 10-8 in six innings to win the District 2 Major Girls Softball title. The teams totaled 17 hits, including six extra-base hits in the game. The game was back-and-forth heading into the fourth, with five lead changes.
Garden City South jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, then pulled ahead 6-3 after the second. Mile High All-Stars pulled out the win thanks to a strong 5 run fourth inning. An RBI single by Erin Fogarty, a two-run triple by Taylor Huff and Jenna Walker scored on a passed ball to give Mile High All-Stars the lead for good.
Garden City South scored two runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Chrissy Hartman and an RBI single by Taylor Lestiko to pull within 2. Kaidy McClafferty got the win for Mile High as she allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings. She struck out six, walked one and gave up five hits.
Taylor Huff, Jenna Walker, Emma Cox and Kennedi Ferriter helped lead Mile High as they combined for eight hits, eight runs scored, five RBIs, and eight runs scored. Jaden Cleveland had a nice running catch in the outfield to support a solid defensive effort by the team.
Savanna Fleming, Emma Keeley, Josie Klapan, and Brynlee Neilsen also played key roles in the victory. Next up for the Mile High All-Stars is the state tournament, which will be held in Butte July 9-10. They will play a three-game series against the champions from District 1.
