MISSOULA — Butte High graduate Mijah McLeod opened the outdoor track season with a strong run Saturday at Dornblaser Field.
The redshirt freshman on the University of Montana track and field team placed third out of 12 in the 400-meter race at the Al Manuel Northwest Dual Invitational, hosted by the University of Montana. (Complete results)
McLeod finished the race in just over a minute (1:00.16). She was one of three Butte High graduates to place on the day.
Fellow Montana freshman Abby Dodge cleared 5 foot, 1 inch to place fifth in the high jump for the Grizzlies.
Montana State freshman Rachael McGree took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.57 seconds. McGree also ran to eighth in the 100, crossing in 13.35 seconds.
The meet was the first of seven leading up to the Big Sky Championships, including four at Dornblaser Field.
The Griz will be in Spokane, Washington, next week before hosting the Montana Open on April 14.
The Bobcats head to the Utah-Weber State Spring Classic next week.
