KASNSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the final edition of the regular season Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Montana Tech moved up in the polls again and is now No. 10 in the national poll.
The No. 10 ranking is the highest a Montana Tech men’s basketball team has reached in school history. The Orediggers started at No. 23 in the preseason poll after being No. 14 in the postseason rankings at the end of last season. Tech was ranked No. 18 in the first edition of the Coaches’ Poll on November 16th after the 2022-23 season started.
The Orediggers went 3-0 since the last poll and have won five straight games. Tech finished the season 15-0 at home and have won 27 games in a row on Kelvin Sampson Court.
No. 1 College of Idaho (27-1) continues to win holding down the top spot receiving all 20 first place votes. There was no movement in the top six with No. 2 Arizona Christian (24-4), No. 3 Union (Ky.) (26-1), No. 4 Grace (Ind.) (24-4), and Langston (Okla.) (26-2) rounding out the top five.
The 85th Annual NAIA National Championship starts March 7-8 with the first two rounds and 16 sites around the country. The winners of those sites move on to the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri final site on March 13-18.
The Frontier Conference Tournament is up next for the Orediggers. The tournament will be held at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls fort the first single site in over a decade. The winner of the tournament receives the automatic bid to the national championship. The Orediggers received a bye into the semifinal round and start the postseason Monday at 5 p.m.
