Montana Tech Men’s Basketball team was placed at the top of the pile in the 22023-24 Frontier Conference Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The six Frontier head coaches voted on the projected order of finish and the preseason awards.
The Orediggers received five first-place votes – the maximum as coaches are not allowed to vote for themselves – for a total of 25 points. The back-to-back Frontier Conference Championships, are coming off a 29-5 season, which included a trip to Kansas City and a run into the round of eight, at the NAIA National Championship.
Rocky Mountain received one first-place vote and 21 points to place second in the poll. MSU-Northern (16 points) came in third and Providence (12 points) was picked fourth. Carroll was chosen fifth with nine points and Montana Western sixth after receiving seven points.
Montana Tech senior forward Caleb Bellach was selected as the Frontier Preseason Player of the Year. Bellach was the conference’s Player of the Year and a NAIA First Team All-American last season. He averaged 18.2 points per game and scored 20-plus 12 times. Oredigger Asa Williamsalso was placed on the Preseason All-Conference team after a stellar season in ’22-23, averaging 14 points and four rebounds a game.
Rocky also placed two on the Preseason All-Conference Team with junior guard Kael Robinson and senior forward Maxim Stephens. Andrew Cook from Carroll, Davien Harris-Williams from Providence complete the team.
