Men’s Basketball Jumps into Top 15 in Coaches’ Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the second NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll today. The Montana Tech Orediggers jumped six places and into the top 15. The Orediggers are ranked No. 12 in the national poll.

The Orediggers are 8-1 during the early nonconference schedule. Since the last poll two weeks ago, the Orediggers went 5-1. Tech faced off against the top school in the last Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Orediggers nearly knocked off than-No.1 Arizona Christian on their home court. After holding a lead most of the game, Arizona Christian had to rally back late in the game narrowly escaping the upset 84-80. Arizona Christian (6-1) dropped to No. 3 in the latest poll.

Thomas More (Ky.) took over the top spot in the Coaches’ Top 25 receiving all 21 first place votes. Thomas More is 6-0 this season. Grace (Ind.) comes in at No. 2 with an 8-0 record. Only three other schools are undefeated in the Top 25. No. 5 Marian (Ind.), No. 7 Faulkner (Ala.), and No. 15 Langston (Okla.) remain unbeaten. Langston jumped from outside of the top 25 in the last poll after receiving votes.

With the Frontier Conference schedule starting this week, Tech is taking the top spot in the rankings for conference institutions. Carroll College (4-1) was at No. 16 above Tech in the last poll, but the Saint fell to No. 23 this week.

The Orediggers open the Frontier Conference schedule at home Thursday when they host Rocky Mountain (5-2). Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in double header action on Kelvin Sampson Court in the HPER Complex.
