BOZEMAN — Tommy Mellott got on the board for the Montana State Bobcats Saturday afternoon.
The former Butte High star scored on a 74-yard run as the Bobcats rolled to a 45-7 homecoming win over Cal Poly at Bobcat Stadium. (Stats)
Lining up a quarterback, Mellott scored on a draw play to put the Bobcats up 28-0 with 4 minutes, 8 seconds left in the second quarter. The run was the first of the freshman’s collegiate career.
Even though he only had one carry, Mellott led the Bobcats in rushing in the victory.
Mellott stood out in football, basketball and track for the Bulldogs. He became the first Butte High boy to earn 12 varsity letters before graduating in June of 2020. He led Butte High to an appearance in the 2019 Class A state championship game.
The win was the fifth straight for the Bobcats (5-1), who will travel to Weber State for a Big Sky Conference game next week.
