HAMILTON — Another tournament brought another strong showing for Butte Central’s Beau McGree.
The Maroon junior battled his way to a third-place finish at the Hamilton Invitational, carding a 2-over-par 74 and finishing just one shot off the lead.
McGree’s round came at the end of a busy stretch that saw him play three competitive rounds in three days. Despite the workload, he remained right in the hunt for medalist honors.
Corvallis golfers Tanner Sorensen and Dylan Wirt shared the top spot after both finished at 73. McGree was alone in third at 74, one stroke ahead of Whitefish golfers Zach Schmid-Sommer and Ashton Taylor, who tied for fourth with rounds of 75.
McGree’s performance helped lead the Maroons to a team score of 342, tying Ronan for seventh in the 13-team field.
Cohen Stajcar added an 85 for Butte Central, Connor Kachmarik finished with an 89 and Ganon Button rounded out the Maroons’ scoring with a 94.
Whitefish took home the boys team championship after posting a 307. Columbia Falls and Polson tied for second at 321, while Corvallis finished close behind at 323.
Butte Central was also represented on the girls side by freshman Mya McGree, who finished 17th in the 46-player field after shooting a 99.
Hamilton’s Cameron Burnett earned girls medalist honors with a 73. Whitefish’s Karlee Brown followed with a 75, while Dillon’s Skylar LaPierre and Whitefish’s Jillian Wagner tied for third at 85.
Whitefish completed the sweep of the team titles with a 347 on the girls side. Polson finished second at 380 and Hamilton placed third at 391.
The Hamilton Invitational wrapped up another busy stretch for Butte Central as the Maroons move toward the most important part of their schedule.
With the regular season winding down, Beau McGree and the Maroons will now shift their focus toward the Western A Divisional tournament in Polson and an opportunity to earn their way to the Class A State Tournament.
