MISSOULA — Brooke McGrath and Katie Keller will represent Butte High at the Class AA State tennis tournament.

The Bulldog seniors teamed to take third place in girls’ doubles Friday at the Western AA Divisional tournament.

McGrath and Keller fell in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 battle with Missoula Big Sky’s Kadyn Easter and Amber Williams in the semifinals.

The loss sent McGrath and Keller to the consolation bracket, where they beat fellow Butte High seniors Ashley Olson and Sevanna Challeen 6-4, 6-1 in a loser-out match. Then the Butte team beat Ashley Young and Moana Massey 7-6, 6-1 in the third-place match.

Missoula Hellgate’s Bailee Sayler and Laine Banziger won the doubles crown., beating Easter and Williams in straight sets in the title tilt.

In girls’ singles, Butte High junior Ashlyn Burnett came up one win shy of another trip to State. She fell 6-2, 6-3 to Brooke Williams of Missoula Big Sky in the semifinals.

Sentinel’s Berlyn Sonnenberg then ended Burnett’s season with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Sonnenberg went on to place third.

Brooke Best of Hellgate beat Williams 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match.

On the boys’ side, Sebastian Silverstein won the singles title. Hellgate teammates Cyrus Kiely and Miles Schroeder won the doubles title.

The top four teams advance to State, which is next week in Missoula.
