McCarthy no-no highlights Bulldog sweep of Hawks

BOZEMAN — Butte High’s softball team finally got into the win column in Eastern AA play Thursday.

They did it in a pretty special way, too.

Sophomore pitcher McCaul McCarthy pitched the first no-hitter of her varsity career, and the Bulldogs beat Bozeman 11-1.

Butte High won 15-6 to complete the sweep in the doubleheader that was played through wind, cold and sometimes a blizzard. Only the first game counted in league standings.

The Bulldogs (3-11 overall and 1-7 in conference) are back in action Monday when they play a makeup twin bill against Great Falls Russell at 2 p.m. at Stodden Park.

Butte High 11, Bozeman 1 (5-innings)
McCarthy struck out seven and worked around five walks to get the no-hitter in the game that was called after five innings by the 10-run rule.

Butte High’s offense pounded out 10 hits, with Brittney Tierney and McCarthy each smacking a pair of hits. Tierney, who caught both games, hit a single and a double while driving in two.

Trisha Ericson singled and knocked in three runs. Kodie Hoagland, MacKenzie Tutty, Taylor Huff, Bradie Lester and Jaden Cleveland also hit a single in the win.

Aubree Corcoran drew a walk as all nine Bulldogs with an at bat reached base.
