Maulers skate past Cobras to earn weekend split

MISSOULA — The Butte Cobras had to settle for a split with the Junior Maulers.

Missoula broke a 2-all tie with three unanswered goals, and the Bruins avenged a Friday loss in Butte with a 5-2 NA3HL win over the Cobras Saturday. (Stats)

Missoula led 2-0 after goals by Cayce Balk and Henry Morrison.

Butte’s Robin Bagley scored off assists from Ty Stovin and Blake Nichols in the second, and Stovin tied the game with a goal assisted by Kyler Garsjo and Alec Sorby 45 seconds into the third period.

The tie was short live lived. Just 58 seconds later, Morrison fed Tyler Prince for a goal to put Missoula on top 3-2.

Mi-Kwan Tallman and Balk added insurance goals to stop Butte’s winning streak at two.

Seth Daniel stopped 39 shots in goal for the Maulers. Danny Fielding saved 48 shots for Butte.

The Cobras will play at home Thursday night against Great Falls.
