Maulers put damper on Cobras home opener

The luck of the Irish wasn’t enough for the Butte Cobras in their home opener Saturday night.

The Missoula Maulers beat the Cobras 4-3 at a packed Community Ice Center, handing the Cobras their fourth straight loss. Stats

Butte unveiled their “Butte Irish” home sweaters for the game. The Cobras will be wearing the sweaters to honor the former Butte hockey team throughout the home season.

Matthew Chamberlain scored a pair of goals, and Misha Akatnov and Alex Shalamov each added one as the Maulers knocked off Butte for the second straight night. The Maulers won 6-2 in Missoula on Friday.

Tanner Loucks recorded 39 saves between the pipes for the Maulers.

Nikita Polishchuk scored two goals to lead the Cobras. His second came with 55 seconds left in the game. Bogdan Shleeve added a goal for the home team.

Goalie Philip Babb registered 54 saves for the Cobras.

The Cobras (1-4) are off until Oct. 15 when they travel to Casper, Wyoming, for a three-game set with the Coyotes.
