Maroons win two before dropping out in Hamilton

HAMILTON — It was a fun ride for the Butte Central Maroons.

One day after upsetting defending champion Polson at the Class A State softball tournament at the Hamilton Athletic Complex, the Maroons ended the seasons of Livingston and Laurel with loser-out victories.

Central, though, fell to Columbia Falls to end the season Friday.

The Maroons beat Livingston in a wild 10-9 game before slipping past Laurel 3-2. Columbia Falls, the No. 1 seed from the Northwestern A, topped the Maroons 10-0.

After starting 1-9, BC ends the season at 11-13. Central finished one win away from playing on Saturday of State.

Junior shortstop Brooke Badovinac and senior pitcher Sofee Thatcher led the Maroons once again.

Badovinac hit two more home runs and drove in nine RBIs on Day 2 of the tournament. She went 9 for 16 with three bombs, three doubles, a triple and 11 RBIs on the tournament. She raised her average just one point to .558 on the season.

Thatcher, who pitched all but three innings, went 9 for 15 with a home run, three double sand three RBIs on the tournament. She finishes the season hitting .519.

Seniors Maggie Stimatz, Brenna Foley, juniors Hattie Mehring, Jaeden Berger and Mia Keeley, and sophomores Cloe Stillwagon, Renee Creekmore and Angelina O’Rourke also contributed for the Maroons, who went 10-4 in May.
