Maroons win pitchers’ duel, lose slugfest in Bitterroot

Butte Central’s softball team went 1-1 in its trip through the Bitterroot Valley Saturday, and the games could not have been more different.

After knocking off Hamilton 3-1, the Maroons fell 18-16 to Corvallis. Both games count in Southwestern A standings.

The Maroons (2-1 overall, 1-1 conference) are back in action Tuesday when they play a Southwestern A game at Dillon.

HAMILTON — Makala Doherty pitched the distance, scattering five hits and striking out five in the win.

Sofee Thatcher homered to lead the BC offense. Zoe Doherty and Maddie Kump doubled. Zoe Doherty and Thatcher also singled in the two-hit game. Maggie Stimatz added a single for the Maroons in the win.

Sophia Doyle hit two singles and scored Hamilton’s lone run.

CORVALLIS — Gabby Krueger drove in four runs while pitching the distance for the victory.

She struck out three and surrendered eight walks in the victory that saw the teams combine for 23 hits.

Krueger and Ashlynn Nixon homered to lead the Corvallis offense. Macee Greenwood drove in three runs.

Kump drove in six runs in a 1-for-5 effort for the Maroons. Makayla Doherty homered, while Zoe Doherty drove in four runs. Both Doherty girls smacked a pair of hits in the loss

Emma Keeley, who caught both games, went 2- for 4 with a double and three RBIs.

Thatcher and Maci Reopelle also hit in the game.

Makala Doherty struck out nine batters in the loss. She was the victim of seven unearned runs, thanks to six BC errors.
