STEVENSVILLE — The Butte Central Maroons got the band back together Wednesday night, and they played a winning tune.
With most of their players coming off a 14-day quarantine because of COVID-19 concerns, the Maroons hit the road to bounce Stevensville in four sets to punch their ticket to the Western A Divisional tournament.
The Maroons won the tournament play-in match 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, and BC will travel to Columbia Falls to take on the WildKats in a 6 p.m. match on Thursday.
The double-elimination tournament is being played with the higher seed hosting each match.
“I cannot say enough about how the girls played tonight coming out of a 14-day quarantine and one short practice today as a team before taking off,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “It was amazing, the type of game we played, but at the same time does not surprise me. These girls are a very talented group, and they put it all together tonight.”
Ella Moodry spiked 17 kills, while Mati McGree registered six blocks to lead the Maroons.
“Definitely a team effort, but Mati McGree was a beast blocking tonight for us, and that’s something we needed,” Hancock said. “Everybody did what they needed to do, and it’s probably the best volleyball I have seen from them.”
Avery Kelly also had a huge match, spiking 10 kills to go along with four blocks. Amira Bolton added six kills.
Libero Sophie Burton’s 18 digs led the BC backcourt. She was joined in double figures by Maci Reopelle with 14 digs. Reopelle also ran the BC offense with 36 assists.
