The Butte Central Education Foundation is organizing a 100 year anniversary of Maroon athletic endeavors and is forming a committee to help plan the event.
The celebration is planned for July 15-16 with an opening reception, team reunions, golf tournament and dinner.
Butte Central’s first interscholastic team began competing in the fall of 1914 during the football season. Since that monumental beginning, the Maroons have developed a tradition of excellence. That legacy and spirit has resulted in 34 state championships in football, basketball, track and field, wrestling, cross country, softball, swimming and golf.
“It is time to celebrate this remarkable achievement,” said Don Peoples Jr., the Butte Central Foundation director.
The Butte Central Foundation is seeking alumni, parents and friends who are interested in helping organize the event. Those interested in serving on the planning committee are asked to gather at the Maroon Activities Center on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 7:15 p.m.
