Maroons sweep Whitefish in divisional opener

DILLON — Butte Central opened the Western A Divisional volleyball tournament in style this afternoon.

The Maroons swept past Whitefish 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 to set up a second-round match with Columbia Falls. BC will take on Columbia Falls or Stevensville at 8 p.m.

Columbia Falls and Stevensville were scheduled to play at 4.

A win would send the Maroons to the semifinals and secure a spot in the Class A State tournament.

“We played a great, tough game against Whitefish,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “We need to take all that into our next tonight.”

Avery Kelly led the BC attack against the Bulldogs, spiking nine kills and getting in ona couple of blocks. Cassidy Strizic added five kills, while Amira Bolton killed four.

Maci Reopelle and Emma Keeley each served up 11 assists, while Sophia Burton collectd 10 digs. Reopelle dug up nine, and Strizic dug six.
