HAMLTON — Butte Central’s volleyball team battled its way to a three-set sweep of the Hamilton Broncs Saturday afternoon.
The defensive-led Maroons made progress in their offensive game, and BC beat the Broncs 25-22, 25-19, 27-25 in the Southwestern A match.
“I’m proud of how the girls pushed through and got the win,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “We are still struggling offensively with putting the ball away, but we did better today and that’s progress.”
Mollie Peoples smacked 13 kills, while Corbyn Holm killed eight to lead the BC attack. Emily St. John tallied 29 assists, and Holm collected 15 digs.
The Maroons also got 13 digs from Taylor Wahl and 10 from Zoe Sullivan. BC served eight aces, with Peoples serving three and Wahl and St. John each served two.
Hancock said the Maroons need to learn to put teams away more quickly.
“When we get the lead we need to roll with that,” she said. “We are letting teams come back into the game, and we can’t afford to do that. But I give them the fight they put up today. They hung in there and got it done.”
