Butte Central will play host to the Southwestern A Divisional tennis tournament Thursday through Saturday in Butte.
The Maroons are keeping an eye on the weather forecast as they prepare for the tournament, which will be played at Stodden and Copper Mountain parks and the newly resurfaced courts at West Elementary School.
BC activities director Chad Petersen said a contingency plan is in place to possibly move the tournament to inside courts in Missoula if the wet weather in the forecast prevents play from being completed outside.
Boys’ singles will be played at West, boys’ doubles will be at Father Sheehan and all girls’ play will be held at Stodden Park. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The Maroons enter play coming off an encouraging regular season.
Frank Hendrickson and Sam Joyce finished the season strong in doubles play for the BC boys. Shane Callahan and Colby Kline also flashed some potential as a doubles tandem, as did the team of Bryan Arnold and Frank Dwyer.
Sam Sterns is the No. 1 singles player for the Maroon boys. Jake McPherson is No. 2, followed by promising freshman Tyge Yelenich and Zach Luebeck.
For the BC girls, Ali Guldseth and Kellsie Quinn have been together for the past two seasons, and it appears they are peaking at the right time. Sierra Pica and Ryan Trudnowski have had a strong season at No. 2 doubles, while Samantha Burton and Savannah Healy have gelled at No. 3.
In singles play, Sarah Drew leads the Maroons into action. Larysa Blavatsky, Megan McPherson and Zoe Sullivan have all found some success as well.
The top four singles players and doubles teams advance to the Class A State tournament, which is next week in Missoula.
