The Mining City will be buzzing with softball Friday and Saturday as Butte Central hosts the LaVerne Combo Invitational.
The tournament will bring 20 teams to town and use five fields. The three fields at Stodden Park will be full, as will the Ed Austin and Helen Austin Fields at the Longfellow Complex. (Schedule)
Butte Central will play two games each day, and Butte High’s junior varsity team will play one game Friday and two on Saturday.
Central’s two games on Friday are Southwestern A contests. The Maroons, who picked up a key conference win Wednesday in Dillon, will play Hamilton at 3:30 p.m. They will then battle Frenchtown at 7.
On Saturday, BC plays Hardin at 12:30 p.m. before taking on Livingston at 4.
All four Central games will be played on Field 2 at Stodden Park. The Bulldogs will play on all three Stodden fields.
Butte High’s JV will take on Corvallis at 5:15 p.m. Friday on Stodden Field 1. The Bulldogs will play Columbia Falls at 10:45 p.m. Saturday on Field 2 before closing the tournament against Florence at 4 p.m. on Field 3.
The tournament is named in honor of the late LaVerne Combo. She was a long-time secretary at Butte Central.
