Maroons set M Club function/pep rally

In an effort to boost the membership of the Butte Central M Club and the Butte Central Booster Club, the Maroons will hold an event Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Maroon Activities Center.

All Butte Central fans are encouraged to attend the event, which will begin at 7 p.m.

In past M Club events, which were organized by Pat Kearney, a team and a person of the year was honored. This year that will change slightly.

Kearney, who passed away a year ago, will be remembered with a tribute video, and his family will be honored with a plaque.

All fall sports teams from BC will be on hand as Legends Awards will be given to Dan Harrington and Mary Crowe.

Harrington will be out of town, so his daughter will accept the award.

Don Peoples Sr., a long-time member of the Booster Club and M Club, said Harrington and Crowe were selected because of their outstanding athletic careers.

“Plus, they are great contributors to the community and to Butte Central,” Peoples said.

Crowe, a 1978 Butte Central graduate, received 10 athletic letters from the Maroons. The was the first female athlete to receive a letter at Butte Central.

Harrington was an All-American football player for the Maroons. He continued his career at Eastern Montana College, where he earned the nickname “Oh No” Harrington.

“As legend has it, opposing players would say ‘oh no’ when he lined up,” Peoples said.

Pat Schulte will emcee the event, while Peoples and Butte Central Foundation President Joe McBride will address the crowd.

Peoples said the goal is add members to the Booster Club and M Club.

“We need to rebuild the Butte Central Booster Club,” he said.

Pork chop sandwiches and soft drinks will be served in the MAC lobby following the presentation.
