STEVENSVILLE — Butte Central didn’t waste much time putting this one away.
The Maroons exploded for 42 points in the first half Friday night and rolled to a 55-7 Southwestern A victory over Stevensville.
From the opening quarter, Central controlled the game on both sides of the football.
The Maroons found the end zone early and often, while the Central defense kept the Yellowjackets off the scoreboard throughout the entire first half.
By the time the teams headed to the locker room, Butte Central had built a commanding 42-0 advantage.
There would be no comeback.
Central continued to add to its lead after halftime and finished with a season-high 55 points, while Stevensville managed just one score in the second half.
For the Maroons, the win was about more than the final margin.
After an uneven start to the season, Central picked up an important Southwestern A victory and improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
And it came in convincing fashion.
Putting 42 points on the board in one half is impressive regardless of the opponent, but pairing that offensive production with a first-half shutout made Friday night’s performance especially complete.
Central eventually finished the night with eight touchdowns and 55 points as the Maroons cruised to their second victory of the season.
Stevensville fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play with the loss.
Now the Maroons get to bring that momentum back to Butte.
Central returns home next Friday to host Frenchtown before welcoming Hamilton to town for Senior Night on Oct. 16.
After a 55-point night on the road, the Maroons will return home with plenty to build on.
