Maroons ride second half to win at Hamilton

HAMILTON — Butte Central’s boys’ basketball team turned up the second half heat to stay undefeated Saturday on the Dale Barry Court.

The Maroons outscored Hamilton 34-12 over the final 16 minutes to break open a one-point game for a 54-31 Southwestern A victory over the Broncs.

The win brings the Maroons to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

“The second half defense was outstanding,” BC coach Brodie Kelly said. “Ryan Wahl was a game changer for us in the second half.”

Wahl came off the bench to score all of his nine points in the second half to help BC pull away after leading 20-19 at the break. He hit a pair of 3-pointers and turned an old-fashioned three-point play.

Braden Harrington scored eight of his team-leading 12 points in the first half, while Trevor Neumann sank a pair of 3-poitners and scored 10 points. Luke Heaphy joined Wahl with nine points.

The Maroons also got six points from Gator Yelenich, three from Jared Simkins and Bryan Holland and two from Matt Simkins.

Trey Searle scored eight of his 13 points from the free throw line to lead the Broncs, who fell to 5-2 and 1-1. Carson Rostad added eight points.

Hamilton could only must seven field goals in the game, two of which were 3-pointers.

Central is back in on the road for another key Southwestern A game next Friday in Dillon.
