MISSOULA — Make it 2-0 for the Butte Central Maroons.
Freshman pitcher Teresa Piazzola struck out 10 batters and the Maroons erupted for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to top Stevensville 11-1 Tuesday in a Southwestern A softball game.
Piazzola and Mikayla Boggs both went 3 for 4 and Hannah Stajcar doubled to lead the Maroons, who have now outscored their two opponents 25-2 on the season.
“It was a lot closer than the score says,” Butte Central coach Kelci Thatcher said. “Today was a good test for us. Hopefully we’ll continue to get better every game.”
Danika Neumann, Shannon McLaughlin and Taylor Marthaller all were credited with singles for the Maroons.
Thatcher called the top of the BC order “disciplined.”
“They were getting on base and doing what we needed to do,” she said.
Piazzola improved to 2-0. She walked five and allowed six hits. Thatcher praised her for getting out of a couple of jams.
“Teresa did a good job,” the coach said. “She had to work through some tough situations.”
Alycia Sims doubled to lead the Yellowjackets.
The Maroons are back in action Saturday when the Laurel Locomotives come to town for a non-conference twin bill. The first game is scheduled for noon, while Game 2 is at 4 p.m. A junior varsity game will be played between the varsity games.
