Maroons post first win, go 1-3 at Frenchtown event

FRENCHTOWN — The always competitive Frenchtown Invitational high school softball tournament pushed Butte Central into the fire of the spring season over the weekend and the outdoor practice-shy Maroons responded with their first win.
The BC girls played two games each day of the Friday-Saturday softballfest, a valued chance to make up field time that had been lost to wintry weather the first month of the season. Butte Central still has not played a home game.
The Maroons beat Whitefish 16-6 on Saturday after falling on Friday by 16-5 to Ronan and 16-0 to Southwest A Conference rival Frenchtown in what was a league counter. BC finished the tourney on Saturday with a 13-4 loss to Libby after having posted its first win of the year.
The BC girls are next scheduled to play on Monday, at home versus Dillon at 3 p.m. at Stodden Park. On Tuesday, they are to face Corvallis at 3 p.m. at Stodden Park.
