FRENCHTOWN — The Butte Central volleyball team opened the Southwest/Northwest Tip-Off Tournament with three wins and five losses Friday.
BC split with Columbia Falls 21-25, 25-23, fell 23-16, 25-23 to Browning and lost 25-21, 25-10 to Libby before ending with a by sweeping Ronan 25-17, 25-22.
Butte Central coach Becky Hancock said her young squad showed potential.
“My goal for these girls was to come into this tournament and compete,” the fourth-year BC head coach sad. “We are a very young squad, with only three veteran seniors playing with varsity experience. From there you are looking at sophomores and freshmen who have never experienced this level.”
Sophomore Cassidy Strizic pounded 14 kills to lead BC’s attack on the day. Sophomore Emma Keeley and senior Olivia Bolton combined for 33 assists to run the Maroons 6-2 offense, while senior Cassidy Criscuolo added seven aces and 27 digs to her nine kills on the day.
“We were right there in a lot of the games, just inexperienced errors here and there that started to add up,” Hancock said. “I am impressed with what I saw out there. We have a lot of potential. It’s just about growing as a team and getting better day by day.”
The tournament continues Saturday morning.
