Maroons open cross country season

The Maroons are ready to run and ready to recruit.

Four boys make up what could be a promising Butte Central cross country season Friday in a meet in Livingston.

The Maroons are young — with two sophomores and two freshman. More importantly, the Maroons are down a man. The teams needs a fifth runner so they can qualify for team scores at meets.

“We’re hunting one more,” said 17-year coach Bob Johnson. “They boys are looking like crazy and I’m trying to see who’s up there at the school.”

Running for Johnson’s Maroons are sophomores Coner McGee and Clay Stillwagon and freshman Shannon Temple and Conner Larson.

“All four of them are doing really well,” Johnson said. “Conor McGee led the boys last year. He had a great year.”

Temple will push McGee for the top spot on the team, Johnson said.

“Shannon Temple is coming up. He’s really talented,” Johnson said. “The other two are right there, too.”

Butte Central will play host to the Butte Central Invitational Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Course in Gregson.

The state meet isn’t until Oct. 20, so there’s still time to join the team.

So far no girls have gone out for cross country at Butte Central.
