Maroons host Laverne Combo Invite

Butte will be the softball capital of the state, if not the world, Friday and Saturday.

Butte Central will host the annual Laverne Combo Invitational tournament that will see 48 games played in two days on Mining City diamonds.

Stodden Park and Copper Mountain Park will be packed for two days. A field at Father Sheehan Park will also be used for one game.

Only one of the 48 games will count in any conference standings, and that one involves the host Maroons, who play Hamilton in a Southwestern A game at 6 p.m. on Field 3 at Stodden. The Maroons play all four of their tournament games on that field.

Shaylan Mohn hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Broncs a 4-3 win over the Maroons in that game. Senior catcher Shannon McLaughlin homered to lead the Maroons, who take a 6-6 record into the tournament. BC is 4-1 in conference.

BC plays Sidney at 2:30 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the Maroons play Billings Central at 12:30 p.m. and Belgrade at 4.
