Maroons host cross country meet at Fairmont

The Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Course will set the scene for the Butte Central Invitational cross country meet tonight.

Action begins with junior varsity races starting at 5 p.m. Varsity races are expected to start at 6 p.m.

The meet will serve as the season opener Butte High. The Bulldogs gave a sneak preview of a team with high expectations at the Purple and White race on Aug. 21.

Senior Nic Raiser led the Bulldogs in that race, senior Shannon Tempel, sophomore Austin Gerry and senior Seth Grant were close behind.

Junior Cati Carmody won the girls race. Classmate Joby Rosenleaf, who sat out the race with an illness, is expected to be Butte High’s top girl runner heading into the 2015 season.

Butte Central opened the season Friday with a strong showing at the Park Invitational in Livingston.

Brian McGeehan got off to a fast start of his sophomore season by placing ninth. Junior Abby McGee placed 14th on the girls’ side.
