Maroons hit divisional courts

The 2013 Butte Central boys’ tennis team will already go down as one of the top teams in school history.

This week in the Bitterroot Valley, the Maroons can make sure their legacy is written in stone.

The Maroons head to the Southwestern A divisional tournament as probably the favorite to win it all. Then BC will look to take the next step the following week at the Class A State tournament in Polson.

The three-day divisional tournament begins Thursday in Hamilton. The BC girls will play their divisional tournament in Corvallis.

Butte Central’s boys enter the tournament after posting a perfect dual record in 2013. That includes the teams third straight win over Butte High.

In singles action, the Maroons will send in Derek Ralph, Northey Tretheway, Kale Guldseth and Jack Gallagher.

Frank and Jim Joyce make up one doubles team. The other two are Patrick Kenney and Tyler Trudnowski, and Kolten LaMiaux and Kaden Peeples.

Coach Bernie Carey said he considers all three teams his “No. 1.”

The Butte Central girls don’t have the wins the boys do, but the young Maroons have showed improvement and some mixed success this season.

Yi-Chin Lee played singles last week, while Nici Rosencrans teamed with Sarah Drew in doubles. Ali Guldseth teamed up with Kellsie Quinn.

All of the BC girls have played singles this season, too.
