Maroons head to Dillon with eye on State tournament

Butte Central’s volleyball team will open the Western A Divisional Volleyball tournament Thursday at Dillon’s B.W. Lodge Gymnasium. (Bracket)

The Maroons will take on Whitefish, which swept Browning in Monday’s play-in match in Whitefish, at 2 p.m. Kaiah Moor’s nine kills and Luci Ridgeway’s 10 digs paced the Bulldogs in that victory.

BC secured a trip to the tournament by finishing second in the Southwestern A in the regular season with an 8-2 record. BC went 13-3 overall.

The winner of the first-round match will play Columbia Falls or Stevensville at 8 p.m. Thursday. Columbia Falls is the No. 1 seed from the Northwestern A. The Wildkats take on the Yellowjackets at 4 p.m.

Corvallis is the top seed from the Southwestern A. The Blue Devils play Libby at noon. Polson, the No. 2 seed from the Northwest, will take on Dillon in the tournament’s first match at 10 a.m.

Seniors Sophie Sullivan, Cassidy Strizic, Emma Keeley, Makala Doherty and Breann Williamson lead the Maroons into action along with juniors Maci Reopelle Sophia Burton, Avery Kelly, Amira Bolton, Marissa Anderson and Mati McGree.

The top four teams move on to the Class A State tournament, which is next week in Bozeman. BC’s last trip to State came in 2015, when the Maroons placed third.
