POLSON — The Maroons will have to do it the hard way.
Butte Central fell 2-0 to Libby Thursday in the first round of the Class A State softball tournament at the Polson Softball Complex.
The Maroons will have to win three games Friday to make it to Saturday. The quest begins with a 9 a.m. game against Havre. If the Maroons win, they will playe the winner of the Livingston-Laurel game. Two wins would pit BC against the loser of the Hamilton-Libby game.
The Maroons (16-9) are in the tough position thanks to Hannah England. The Libby pitcher blanked the Maroons for the second time of the season. This time she held BC to one hit, a single by Corbyn Holm.
Mikayla Boggs scattered six hits for the Maroons, who were victimized by a little bad luck. An error led to one run, and another runner scored on a passed ball.
Havre beat Miles City 7-5 before falling 9-0 to Frenchtown.
In other first-round games, Livingston beat Anaconda 5-4 and Polson beat Laurel 8-5. Other second-round games saw Billings Central beat Livingston 1-0, Libby knock off Belgrade 2-1 and Hamilton edge Polson 12-11 in a 10-inning thriller.
Kloie Nye’s single in the 10th won the game for the Broncs.
In Friday’s undefeated games at 1 p.m., Billings Central meets Frenchtown and Hamilton takes on Libby.
