Maroons fall in three, turn attention to Broncs

COLUMBIA FALLS — Butte Central’s volleyball team fell in three sets to a powerful Columbia Falls team in the first round of the Western A Divisional tournament Thursday night.

The Broncs beat the Maroons 25-17, 25-20, 25-17, sending BC to a 5 p.m. loser-out game Friday at Frenchtown. The Broncs fell in three sets to Whitefish Thursday in Frenchtown.

“We played right with one of the best teams in the Western A tonight, but let it get away from us around 15 in the first two games,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “Too many unforced errors on our end that we couldn’t afford to make. We just need to put this game behind us and mentally prepare for tomorrow. One day, one game at a time.”

Avery Kelly and Amira Bolton each spiked six kills to lead Butte Central’s attack at the net. Ella Moodry killed five, and Macie Reopelle served up 18 assists.

Bolton also led BC’s backcourt with 14 digs. Sophia Burton and Reopelle each dug 18, and Sofee Thatcher served three aces.
