Maroons eye Southwestern A volleyball crown

Butte Central can celebrate the Southwestern A regular-season volleyball title with a win Tuesday at the Maroon Activities Center.

The Maroons (11-1 overall, 6-1 conference) will take on Stevensville in a conference match at 7 p.m. The match is the final league contest for BC, and a win will secure them of at least a tie for the top spot with Corvallis at 7-1.

The Blue Devils (8-3, 5-1) and Maroons split the regular season series. BC would win the head-to-head tiebreaker with Corvallis because the Maroons swept the Blue Devils in Butte. Corvallis beat BC in five sets last week in Corvallis.

Stevensville enters at 2-11 overall and 0-6 in Southwestern A play. The Maroons swept the Yellowjackets Sept. 26 in Stevensville.

BC beat its first 10 regular season opponents in straight sets before losing to Corvallis. The Maroons bounced back with Saturday’s thrilling five-set home win over Class B power Anaconda.

The Western A “super divisional” tournament will be held Nov. 5-7 in Hamilton.
