Maroons drop non-conference games

FRENCHTOWN — Butte Central’s softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games Saturday.

The Maroons, who didn’t have the pitching services of freshman ace Teresa Piazzola, fell 7-0 to Frenchtown before going down 4-3 to Columbia Falls. Piazzola has a tired arm, and coach Kelci Thatcher is hoping to have her back next week.

Freshman Shawnee Hjelt pounded three singles to lead the Maroons in the loss to the Broncs. Danika Neumann and Katie Hogart added singles.

Mikayla Boggs took the loss. Of the seven runs, only two were earned thanks to three BC errors. Boggs struck out six in the loss.

Piazzola tripled to lead the Maroons in the nightcap. Neumann and Hogart added singles.

Taylor Marthaller pitched well in the loss.

Butte Central, which is 6-6 overall and 4-1 in Southwestern A play, hosts the annual Laverne Combo Invitational next Friday and Saturday at Stodden and Copper Mountain parks.
