Maroons drop ‘Jackets, got to 3-1 in division

STEVENSVILLE — Teresa Piazzola struck out 13 batters in relief, and Shawnee Hjelt smacked three hits Tuesday as Butte Central’s softball team knocked off Stevensville 7-5 in a Southwestern A game.

McKenzie Gallagher hit two doubles in the game, while Corbyn Holm, who drove in three runs, and Piazzola both hit one double.

Rylee Green went 2 for 4 in the victory. Kate Ossello, Mollie Peoples and Shelby Paffhausen smacked base hits.

Megan Finley went 3 for 3 to lead the Yellowjackets.

Piazzola relieved starter Mikayla Boggs in the second inning and didn’t surrender a run while overpowering the opposition.

The win lifted the Maroons to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Maroons now have a long break between games. BC doesn’t play again until April 25-26 at the Frenchtown Invitational.
